MONTENEGRO

Land of mountains and sea

Montenegro is a country where you can enjoy the sea, the mountains, lakes and a rich cultural heritage. The impressive bays with authentic fishermen’s villages and the steep cliffs of the coastal mountains leave nobody indifferent.

Along the coast line there are magnificent cultural cities with a rich history. The historical cities in the bay of Kotor, Budva, Sveti Stefan en Ulcinj are of exceptional beauty. Byzantine churches, Venetian palaces and Turkish fortresses are making cosy, picturesque entities of these age-old cities.

The Montenegrin landscape exists out of rugged mountain massifs, canyons and green-blew lakes. The wonderful Skadarsko Jezero is the biggest lake on the Balkans. The impressive canyon of the river Tara is 1300 m deep. It’s the longest and deepest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon.

Midst the rugged karstic mountains lies Cetinje, the cultural and historical capital of Montenegro. This former royal capital is called often museum city because of the presence of many museums. The architecture here is varied and completely different compared with cities at the Montenegrin coastal line. Close to Cetinje the mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic Njegos is situated on a 1660 m high mountain top.
