At the South-Montenegrin coast one can find ancient culture cities, kilometre long sandy beaches and bays bordered by olives. Along the mountainous coast line there are many historical cities with narrow passages and exuberant subtropical plants. The South coast is known for its large fruit plantations of oranges and lemons. Close to the border with Albania you can get acquainted with the orient. Here the cities are oriental dominated.

The close orient
The city Ulcinj is the most Southern bathing resort of Montenegro. Because of the vicinity of Albania the city has a strong oriental character. The houses and mosques have been built in a typical oriental style. Furthermore one can find beautiful Turkish patrician houses and impressive medieval city walls in the old city. It is the only Montenegrin coastal city where the oriental atmosphere is so explicit.

Picturesque old city
The old city of Ulcinj is positioned uniquely on a hill and looks over the new town part. The town gate leads the visitors to the old city centre existing out of  cosy alleys and picturesque promenades. The old city is surrounded by a medieval town wall. The wall remained intact in spite of the turbulent history. The royal citadel Ratislava is impressive. Here one can examine the rest of a mosaic.

Sandy beaches
From the hill, where the old city is situated, one has a beautiful view on Mala Plaža, the sandy beach of Ulcinj. Here one can take a dive in the clear blue water of the Adriatic sea. Close to Ulcinj are still other beautiful beaches among which Velika Plažabeach, the longest beach of Montenegro.

Delicious fish restaurants
In Ulcinj are lots of cosy restaurants where one can enjoy the fish specialities of this region. We advice to go to the Bojana River, that lays South of Ulcinj. Here are laying floating restaurants that reminds us about South-East Asia. Here the visitors can enjoy the delicious fish specialities and the beauty of the nature.
